Remember the wax casting we sent for production? It's back and ready for action!
Here is the second phase of crafting this custom engagement ring.
Now, as you may have heard, I do not enjoy working with computers, and have therefore forgotten to photograph the out of box cast. The purple wax carving was cast in Gold and returns with a buffed, matte finish in a golden milky hue. A diamond in the rough. But, you'll just have to wait and see if I can catch it in the wild!
We start on our stone-setting journey. Just like magic, voila it fits! All jokes aside, I was excited to get this project underway and in my haste photographs eluded me until the next set. I did not photograph the stone seat cutting and fitting. It is a finicky process and takes dedication and focus. I was focussed on this task before I realized I need photos and here we see up to that point. The main diamond has a seat and fits nice.
This top photo shows the diamond fitting. The side stones now need a seat to be set. This process I find better to do in metal because wax is soft and it is very easy to remove too much. Also, I am more familiar working in metal than wax and stones are dainty little fairies who need a perfect seat. There are a lot of stories wound into these rings and I cannot wait to see the final project!
On the Bench:
Oft' times while I work at my bench, especially on special projects, blips of ideas and whatnot awaken me from my crafting. I note them on whatever bit of paper I can find before it slips from my mind. Those bits while working on this ring have found their way into a poem.

of Bard's bellowed ballads

Like the Sun soaked forest
after a heavy rain
a heart's embrace
Autumn fronded ferns her hair
magic whispers her name
Tenacious in all that she does
Her force is life's embrace

fruition of mundanity
of life itself.

This ring was was created with the powers of Spring rains, under the prairie skies and all of the ones in between, love for one another will forever endure. Of all the seas and across the lands the love carried here rains eternal.
The above photo shows all three stones seats cut and ready for stone setting. Again, the stone setting is a precarious thing and it is the last and final opportunity to finish a piece! Stones can sometimes break during this process and what a sad thing that is. I was fruitful in my endeavours this round and no stones were harmed in the making of this ring.
Before we set all the stones we make a final pass in polish and bring the metal to the lustrous shine it is capable of. The sunny disposition of gold brings memories of swaying wheat fields and how beautifully it captures the light.
The finished product! All three stones set, polished and makers hands with fresh polishing compound.
