How blessed am I to be able to create. I was over the moon when I was asked to craft a ring for my bestie! What a daunting venture, of course I had to say yes!
It was so easy to make this piece, not because it actually was(snafu's and learnings throughout it all) but, of what it represented. The love that these two, NJ, share is a once in a lifetime love. A love that stories are written about. A love that lasts lifetimes, over and over.
The task was simple. Create a ring N would love. She had specifically requested I create her ring so I knew she would love it. She has been my biggest support, a believer and someone who exudes love. This ring had to encapsulate that and much more. That was easy. Working on this piece imbued with that love in every step of the process because the love I have for this human is second to none.
Imbued with all of the unconditional love, a passion for creating and the excitement to see a true love form started with an idea.
J is a charming character with a passion for antiques, it is no wonder the inspiration arose from a vintage, art deco ring. A prominent centre stone and smaller accented diamonds. Their love of the farm, growing grains and antiques in all forms inspired this one-of-a-kind ring. To the prairies I go.
To achieve the effect of wheat on the band of the ring, I opted to carve the ring in wax first and be sent to cast in gold. In order to set a stone, we must first create the cavity where the stones will sit, so as not to take away too much wax and have a weak wall for the stone setting. It is the most important part, we must start there.
